One side: it’s inappropriate for a white* person to dress as a person of color, even as a way of paying homage to her badass-congresswoman–ness. Even without things like, say, hoop earrings.

Other side: non-Jews can dress as RBG or Bernie as long as they don’t include markers of Jewishness (e.g., yarmelke). Respect for a public figure is the point, not their Jewishness or Latina-ness.

It has now turned into a meta-debate in which some people may or may not be performatively taking their allyship to extremes as a way of woke-posturing to other white* folks, with no input from those who actually may or may not be hurt. Which is why input would be helpful.

* Jews have been considered white in the US for the last 70 or so years, but that may or may not continue to be true. It’s looking pretty tenuous these days
