I’m not an expert in character encoding. Can someone tell me why the first bit of the 7-bit ASCII character codes used on the Perseverance parachute is set to 9 instead of 1? Example: W = 0d87, 0b1010111 But the parachute says 0010111.

Nevermind, I’m totally overthinking it. They’re not ASCII codes, just A = 1, B = 2, etc.
