In starting the conversation, I was straightforward about what I wanted: I said the price went up and I wanted to see what we could do about that. In my experience, they’re receptive to that, and it seems to be policy to work with you.Permalink On twitter.com

I could have walked away with that, but $55 > $50 so I pushed a bit further. I sent a screenshot of an offer from Astound (formerly RCN). I didn’t explicitly threaten to switch. I may have had better luck, but was timid about the bluff this year. (I can’t get RCN in my building.)Permalink On twitter.com

They said no, but I asked one more time, suggesting a contract, and magically another $5 fell off. Now back at what I’d been paying for the last year, and down the full $30 that they’d raised it on me, I called it quits and accepted the offer. YMMV, but it worked for me.On twitter.com
